Robert Domanic Defends Title, Emily Lipari Captures Another Championship at Fleet Feet Liberty MilePublished by
Domanic follows Blankenship, McNamara as back-to-back men’s winner; Lipari joins Kampf as only women to secure multiple victories in annual Pittsburgh road race By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor Robert Domanic became the third consecutive male athlete to repeat as champion and Emily Lipari joined Heather Kampf as the only female runners to win multiple titles Friday at the eighth annual Fleet Feet Liberty Mile in downtown Pittsburgh. Domanic prevailed in the city’s only evening road race in 4 minutes, 8 seconds, joining Ben Blankenship (2016-17) and Jordan McNamara (2014-15) as back-to-back men’s winners. Lipari joined Domanic in earning a $5,000 winner’s prize, surging in the final 250 meters to triumph in 4:34 for her second Liberty Mile title in three years. Kampf (2012-13 and 2015-16) remains the event’s most decorated champion with four victories. Recent Notre Dame graduate Jessica Harris took second, Eleanor Fulton placed third and Rachel Schneider finished fourth, all timed in 4:36. Kampf finished fifth in 4:37, but still leads the Bring Back The Mile Grand Prix Tour after three events with 18 points. Daniel Herrera, Patrick Casey and Riley Masters were second, third and fourth in the men’s race, all timed in 4:09. Brett Meyer finished fifth in 4:10. Tripp Hurt still leads the men’s overall series with 18 points after three events. The next Bring Back The Mile Grand Prix Series race is Aug. 17 with the Aetna Falmouth Mile in Massachusetts.
